A lot of you have been asking about construction at the Polynesian, specifically in regard to whether or not you should book the resort for your next trip. If you’re not aware. Disney is building a new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property on the grounds of the Polynesian. It will be in the middle of the resort to the right of the pool (as you’re facing the Magic Kingdom) and just past the Hawaii building, covering much of the front of the resort from there, and going out into the lagoon. You can see how Disney is adding to the beachfront in this picture, taken from the Magic Kingdom ferry.
This is the view of the beach, to the right of the pool and directly in front of the Hawaii building.
And here you can see some sort of construction platform right out into the water. Is it just me, or does it already seem like these are going to be really expensive?
People were still enjoying the beach and the noise was very minimal, at least on this day.
Finally, a close up of the long fence that separates the guest area front the construction site.
On the flight home, I talked to a family from Kentucky who stayed at the Poly this past week. They loved the rooms and the resort itself, but were very disappointed that they hadn’t been warned ahead of time that a good part of the beach was blocked and that most of the theme park view rooms were obstructed. So would I recommend the Poly right now? Yes, but with two caveats: 1) I would only recommend it to folks who knew the resort well so they would have a good idea of where the construction is and how it would effect their visit; and 2) I wouldn’t recommend any theme park view rooms. Bottom line however, if a view is important to you, you might want to skip this lovely resort for now.
